Use this article to help you with your research: What do you need for class? Pencils with erasers Pens Blank, lined Paper A folder or binder used only for science class Colored Pencils Key to Success : There is one GIANT key to success in any science class: VOCABULARY . Together as a class we will spend a lot of time going over vocabulary words, making flash cards, and studying together. At home you should plan to review these cards at least 10-15 minutes each day. Your goal should be to UNDERSTAND each term, not to memorize each definition. Class Expectations : There are four expectations in science class: 1. Be Prompt 2. Be Prepared 3. Be Productive 4. Be Positive Each student in my class can expect the same four things of me. About Mrs. Coates: Mrs. Coates is from Pleasant Grove ( goooooooooo Vikings! ). After high school she went to Utah State University to study Biology. Before she graduated with a teaching degree she moved to South Carolina for a year and while living there she had a baby boy (both were a little unexpected but exciting surprises). She taught middle school for several years in Sandy, Utah, and had a baby girl before she moved to Vista Heights to continue her love of teaching. And now there are three Coates kids, and they are all forced to do science projects for fun! ​ Mrs. Coates finished a Masters Degree in Chemistry at the University of Utah. ( This is where everyone in her family yells "NERRRRDDDDDD!" ) A few years ago she did a research project to determine how different gases affect the combustion rate of carbon particles (boring, right?). Why did she decide to be a teacher? Well, that wasn’t the plan. She intended to be a forensic anthropologist, and decided get an undergraduate degree that could lead to another career, just in case she was HORRIBLE at forensics . But once she did her student teaching she learned how much she LOVED teaching and can’t imagine working in any other career now.
